BASIC ROLL
Your rolls pertain solely to your character (or NPC). If Rita and Billy are having it out and Rita swings at Billy, Billy rolls to see how well he dodges or takes the punch to the face. Billy isn't wearing a mouth guard, so he just needs to do a basic roll in order for the dice to decide his fate.
The dice is here, on the far right:

When you've clicked it, the default dice is a d20. Click "insert dice" and this will be inserted into your post:

MORE ROLLS
But, let's say Rita's attack was more than a punch. What if Rita had a bow and fired four arrows at Billy from a distance, all in one post? Billy can roll to take the appropriate amount of arrows.

4 = number of dice
d20 = type of dice. (This could be dx, where x = any number you want)
Until you hit "reply," you won't know what you rolled. So, even though you're not done with your post, go ahead and hit "reply" and let's see what happened to Billy.

Billy's jaw is all kinds of cattywampus after Rita's punch knocked out several teeth and sent him back flying. Looks like he took two of the arrows when she inexplicably conjured a bow and ran 100 yards away to continue her heartless assault. Now, just hit "edit" and resume typing, responding appropriately to the result. Don't mess with the dice syntax in your post; they'll come up the same as in the preview and cannot be changed. (Unless you cheat by removing them and inserting fresh dice. Honor system!)
Here's what the two rolls will look like in your edit screen:

MORE ADVANCED ROLLS
Billy again meets with Rita. Sure enough, ten minutes in and they get into an argument about politics. Rita is ruthless. She goes for Billy's presumably vulnerable squishy nads, but little does she know they'll get a +4 modifier thanks to the cup the well-prepared Billy is wearing.

1 = number of dice
d20 = type of dice
+4 = modifier. Could be numbers other than 4.
Hit "reply" to see how his fleshy bits handled the abuse:

Not very well, despite his preemptive dressing of the jewels. He rolled a three, which, even with that +4 modifier applied by his cup, gives him a 7. Sure, he can still bear children, but ouch.
There's a lot more you can do with the dice roller:

No Billys were harmed in the making of this instructional post.
