The Truth
(information formerly found on the now corrupted file)
Birom was born on the satellite station Baccia Prime and swiftly groomed for a scientific career. Early on he developed his interest in blurring the lines between man and machine, which influenced "repairs" of both practical and aesthetic nature as he grew older. He was able to diminish his own most visible flaw --facial and verbal tics, until it became perfectly unnoticeable --thus protecting the honor and viability of his parents, who were among the elite selected and screened as "breedable" citizens. Rather than stopping there, he underwent several more surgeries to improve his appearance, voice, and, secretly, his compatibility with the networks found on Baccia Prime. Vanity took precedence over all else in time until he went so far as to lie about his age, deciding upon an eternal "thirty-six" years.
As he was reaching a respectable level of his career, Birom took further interest in erasing his genetic past. He endeavored to create a means by which he could control networks with thought alone, lacking the advanced technical knowledge required to infiltrate Baccia's encrypted networks. He held strong belief he could integrate with machinery, combining algorithm with his organic thought to change his own file.
While he did not achieve this on his own, Birom was dealt an ironic hand. Believed to have witnessed an exchange between two corrupt Primaries, he was taken into custody and interrogated. When he insisted he knew nothing, he was placed an anesthetic while doctors and leaders worked to determine a means of extracting the desired information. A new technique was suggested; one which the lead neural doctor assured would extract information from mental storage without affecting other memory. Using some of the very technology Birom had helped to develop, they managed to extract data, only to lose it to a fluke blip in their sector of Baccia's power grid. The fleeting lapse led to loss of the information extracted, but also caused damage to his memory such that he would likely recall nothing upon waking.
Being found out would potentially result in termination for all those involved in the illegal surgery. Doctors worked to implement a mechanical storage to which they could export the extracted information (excluding their incriminating evidence against the two primaries), but it only served to allow him a means of storing new information. When he came to again, Birom indeed remembered nothing, but his predilection to tamper with technology remained ingrained.
His file was rewritten for him; corrupted in part by the power blip (as many were; save these could be restored by speaking with the affected citizens), and added to using what information could be safely gleaned from others. Other data was invented by the authorities themselves. The whole mess was chalked up to a mishap of his own invention --which it was, in part. Birom was sent to a recovery area, awaiting a trial to see that he would still be able to perform a useful function. Otherwise, he would face termination.
